It's Here

The sheet for Bubbo's sleeping bag just arrived a few minutes ago. So, we're down to the wire, but should be able to get it done. Only problem? I have a migraine, so sewing doesn't sound very tempting. It is much better than it was last night, but still. I would really like to curl and sleep. We'll see what decision gets made. More soon.

Flashback Friday

This is the first "quilt" that I free motion quilted. I did it as a practice before I did a bigger quilt. This was just a yard of fabric. I made it for Sweet Pea to have at school. Her favorite color is blue and she loves dogs and cats so the fabric was perfect. I made this in August of 2009.

Sew & Tell

On Sunday I finished the sleeping bag for Sweet Pea. The zipper just about killed me, but I managed and it works. Woohoo! It turned out great and I'm really happy with it. And just finished Sweet Pea's bean bag chair today. They both have her name embroidered on it with Curlz font - my fav for girls. This bean bag chair took WAY longer than I expected, but it's done and it looks good. I used a tutorial from here to make the bean bag chair.

The saga with Bubbo's stuff continues. I decided that I am going to make his bean bag chair out of all denim, so I don't have to wait on the sheet for that. I'm hoping to finish that this weekend. I called The Company Store yesterday to ask about his sheet. They said it had just come into the warehouse and would ship out in 2-3 business days and then take about 6 days to get to me - not before Christmas. I got transferred to several different people in an effort to help me. The final deal I ended with after talking to a supervisor? Overnight Fed-Ex shipping (costing over $5 more than the sheet itself). We're still not sure whether it will get here in time because it has to go through quality control and stuff before it gets shipped out, but I was VERY happy with how The Company Store handled it. They did a great job. So, we shall see if it gets here in time and if I can get the sleeping bag made before Christmas morning. Nothing like getting things done at the last minute. :)

Teacher's Gifts - check

The teacher's gifts have been finished, filled with goodies, and delivered to the kids' teachers. I made these using 7 Layer Studio's tutorial. I just changed the dimensions up to get a bigger bag. I wanted to make these so they could be used year-round, but still looked good with the Christmas stuff that I put inside them. I think the black, white and red turned out nice.Sweet Pea, Bubbo, and I made some chocolate-caramel popcorn and put it in those little green take-out containers. I also stuck in a little snowman filled with handsoap and some candy.

I have hit a dilemma. Some of the fabric that I am using for the sleeping bags and bean bag chairs is a flat sheet. I ordered two flat sheets at the same time. Sweet Pea's came in and Bubbo's is still backordered. I have called the company and they don't when it is coming in. I'm trying to decide if I should use a back-up sheet that I got that will be cute, but not nearly as cute. Or go with the fact that Bubbo is only 2 and won't really notice, nor care very much whether he has a sleeping bag and bean bag chair with a cover under the tree come Christmas morning. I'm leaning towards waiting for the sheet and just finishing the stuff after Christmas but haven't made a final decision. We'll see what happens.

Flashback Friday

Today's Flashback Friday is a burp cloth I made in November of 2007. I embroidered the name, sewed the edges of the burp cloth into the middle and then sewed the fabric on the ends.

No pictures

I'm not feeling very motivated to take pictures lately. And I don't really like posting when I don't have pictures. Hence the reason I haven't been posting much. But, I have been sewing, some. Not as much as I would like to or need to, but some. My friends and family make fun of me because I have this crazy system of figuring out how much time I need to sew everyday to finish things for deadlines. I'm up to 79 minutes per day. I'm trying, but that's a long time. But, I really want to get the kids Christmas presents done. So, here's where I am on my list.

You may notice that I took #12 off my list. It doesn't actually have to be done by the end of December and I just don't have time to work on it until after Christmas. So, I've taken it off the list. And actually, it's not a secret anymore either. It's a quilt that my mom and I are making for my sister-in-law. My parents went and visited my bro and sis-in-law for Thanksgiving and "gave" her the quilt top. Her birthday is tomorrow, so it was pretty close. My mom basically did the entire quilt top and now my job is to quilt the whole thing. Yikes! I'm kinda scared. It's a queen-size and I'm free-motion-quilting it, but I'm gonna do it. I'll keep you updated as things go along.

I'm still here

I've been a little overwhelmed with everything I have to get done. And typically when that happens, I shut down for a little while. So, I haven't been doing much sewing, but I think that today I got back in the groove.
The flag has been given to its recipient and so now I can share the pictures. Our church is involved with Campus Crusade for Christ and the local leaders are close friends of ours. Precious S and I made this flag for them to take to conferences so they can show who they are. Hopefully they will enjoy using it when they go to their Winter Conference at the beginning of January.

Christmas Dress

I bought the ribbon for Sweet Pea's dress and finished it up this afternoon. It's nothing fancy, just a pillowcase dress, but I think it will look cute, especially with Bubbo's matching shirt.Precious S and I also finished the flag yesterday, but the pictures will have to wait. We're surprising someone with it and don't want them to see it on here first.

Progress on Teacher's Gifts

For the kids teachers I am making little open bags/baskets using this tutorial. I decided to do a test run because I wasn't sure about dimensions and how it would all work. Overall I'm happy with it, although I will change a few things. My mom asked me to make a little trash basket for her to sit next to the couch where she likes to do cross-stitch. So, this will be for her - she loves bluebonnets.

Christmas Tree Shirt

I finished Bubbo's Christmas tree shirt yesterday. I also finished sewing Sweet Pea's pillowcase dress, but I haven't gotten the ribbon for it yet, so I won't show you pictures until it's completely done. I appliqued this little Christmas tree onto the t-shirt with my machine. I love the way it turned out. This tree was cut out of the fabric that Sweet Pea's dress is made out of.A close-up of the applique.

Cupcake Pinchushion - Check

I made this cupcake pincushion - finished it on Friday. I made it using this tutorial. There are some really cute ones over there, so go check them out. This was difficult and took my twice as long as I expected, but it was mainly my fault because I didn't pay enough attention to the directions and I didn't have all the right supplies. But, hopefully my friend will enjoy and it does work as a pincushion.

Flashback Friday

I'm going to use Flashback Friday as a way to share things that I've made in the past.

I made the overalls on the left for Sweet Pea in 2006. She was 2 years old at the time. They are school spirit overalls for Texas A&M. Sorry the pictures aren't that great - somehow I didn't get pictures of them up close. You should be able to see them a little bit better if you click on the pictures.
Note: my brother made his overalls.
